Advanced oxidation process (AOP) is a chemical treatment procedure designed to remove organic (and sometimes inorganic) materials in water and wastewater. The term AOP also refers to a more specific subset of such chemical processes that employ ozone, hydrogen peroxide and/or UV light. In addition, the wide range of AOP applications are applicable for the disinfection of water, air and for remediation of contaminated soils. Recently the challenges in treating produced water from chemical enhanced oil recovery (CEOR) applications has been found to be potentially possible through the use of AOP.
